Upon being upgraded to University status in 2007, KUCT admitted students in a range of degree programmes in Business, Actuarial Science, ICT and Engineering disciplines alongside Diploma and certificate courses. These are flagship programmes and are a critical demonstration of KUCT’s commitment to becoming a premier Technological University.
The first degree students in B.Com and B.IT were admitted in May 2006 and graduated in 2009. In June 2009, the third group of students admitted under the new dispensation enrolled, bringing the total number of students to 1,400; more than 1100 of these being undergraduate students and the other 300 Diploma and Certificate students. The student population is expected to rise to over 4,000 in the next four years.

KUCT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of its vision. The first phase which is now complete includes a library, lecture theatres, laboratories and supporting infrastructure. The second phase is almost complete. It is funded by the Government of Kenya. Subsequent phases of development comprise two academic blocks, one to house ICT labs, lecture rooms and offices and the other to house Engineering labs, workshops, and supporting physics and chemistry labs.
