THINK THIS OVER

Today we have higher buildings and wider highways, but shorter temperaments and narrower points of view

We spend more, but enjoy less

We have bigger houses, but smaller families

We have more compromises, but less time

We have more knowledge, but less judgment

We have more medicines, but less health

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values

We talk too much, we love only a little, and we hate too much

We reached the moon and came back, but find trouble to cross our own street and meet our neighbor

We have conquered the outer space but not the inner space

We have high income, but lesser morals

These are times with more liberty, but less joy……

With much more food, but less nutrition

These are times of finer houses, but more broken homes

That’s why I propose that as from today you don’t keep anything for a special occasion, because every day that you live is a special occasion. Life is a chain of moments of enjoyments; it isn’t only a survival. Use your crystal goblets. Do not save your best perfume, and use it every time you feel you want it. Take out from your vocabulary phrases like “one of these days” and “someday”.

SUCCESS LEGENDARY

Father and son evening stroll as the sun goes down;
He taps my shoulder and says:
“You are a success legend my son
Go ahead, go get it, life awaits you with greatness
Don’t you be stumbled, there are many ways through
Go my child go;
Dream whatever you desire to dream,
Go wherever you wish,
Seek whatever you desire
Coz life is unique by how you shape it;
Life is beautiful and the beauty you behold inside,
Will beget success.

You’ll be there someday, hold high your breath
You can go the distance, miles and miles you’ll come out alive
Don’t you be scared, you’ll find your way
I crane my neck ahead there Is a treasure for you
You can’t wither, you’ll weather all the storms
Coz a journey of victory isn’t devoid of thorns and thwarts
Take heart my son, you have my blessings
And my spirit will forever hover over you
I tell it to your tender face, you’ll make a great man
To carry our name with prestige down our pedigree
Fight my son fight, tough it out you are a success legend.

I was once like you with troubles of a man who desire success
My father was a peasant gardener,
My mother a desperate housewife
I was in misery, my soul was weary and my heart was laboring,
But my mother said a prayer for me every night
And I could feel her hugs and kisses in my bed of desolation,
I learnt to take a step in life, to walk and to fly;
Mama cried for every step I took in life and thanked God
And my papa’s glory of his old age was the merits of his wisdom
My father my mentor my inspiration passed on
Sorrow of the bereaved onto us but I knew I had to make it through.

My son you’ll wear in life and your soul shall tear,
Not an iota of water to cool your throat in the tough terrain;
But the beauty you behold inside shall outweigh all the fear
Be strong my son don’t you surrender and live to fight for another day;
Two steps in front, one behind you’re still going ahead my son
Listen to your heart, don’t you chance the battle of flesh and soul
Don’t you flare up a fire to break your inside;
Be a man of integrity, it goes with a price
My blood runs in your veins, I will forever be with you
Never to give up on you, never to live your side;
My breath may expire but I pray the Lord my soul to take,
And in heaven, I’ll watch over you and guide your steps.

It pleasures my soul to see you take your first step in life;
Walk my son walk, learn to fly and take your mother with you
We are all she made us, a mother of great men;
When you learn to flap your wings and fly, take her with you
And don’t you forget her children, they’ll carry you someday;
Shelter her from the storms, she is the love of my life
When she is left without me, catch her breath as she sobs;
Bewail and lament her gone lover with her, tell her I loved her
I’ll forever hold her hand in mine and feel her heart close to mine;
Take care of her we danced in love she’ll stumble in sorrow.
Shower her with smiles, your victory will light up her heart;
You must make it my son, for your mother you must.

I can’t hold back my tears, I hold his hand in mine and reassure him:
“Yes father I can go the distance, I’ll find my way, I’ll make it there;
The cold may explode and the path may be long but you’ll always be,
Never will I chicken out but farther I’ll become, for you I will
For my mother, our guardian angel I will;
I’ll swim the ocean, I’ll go the distance
But father you won’t die on us, you’ll never give up on us
You’ll be the first to tread the grounds of success;
And I’ll follow with mother and her children,
Together we’ll never part eternally.”
The sun has already gone down.
For all I’ve been,
For all I am,
And for all I hope to be,
I’ll be your son, for I owe it all unto you.
Father and mother I love you endlessly.

Road to KUCTSO 2011/2012 Elections by njoraw

As election day comes closer the face of KUCT keeps changing everyday as contestants for the various posts pull out elaborate campaign stunts to woo in voters. From banners strategically placed to posters which are creatively designed, this election has seen some of the more tactical forms of campaigning than the previous 3 held before. Door to door campaigns have become he norm as well as street ambushes where each candidate ties to speak to anyone that is willing to listen to their campaign policies and plea for votes.

The propaganda being used this time round is also very hard hitting with hard facts being brought out against opposing candidates. This is also the first time there has been use of online polling for the student election thanks to www.mykuct.com a site developed by some of the promising minds that Kimathi University has to offer. You can vote for your proffered candidate as many times as you want and although the polls are not a true depiction of how the candidates fair on the ground, they give an indication as to who the likely candidate€s to win are come the elections on Thursday June 9th 2011.

Online Polls as at 9am Sunday by mykuct.com

The online polls are very much in full swing thanks to mykuct.com which has made this possible.

'Big Stan' Relishes League Return by Simonynsky

Titans in Action at City Park
The Titans cooling off after a match
Stanley Njenga, the Titans right back relishes a league return against rivals JKUAT since the club took a break after their first league game in March. ?We have been preparing for this game, it?s big game and we wouldnt want to disappoint our fans. It is a big University derby (since JKUAT is the mother school to Kimathi University) and I?ll be happy if we walk away with three points.?

Being his second season at the Titans, he seems upbeat to face any opposition. He has had an impressive run last season and in the pre-season tournaments and friendlies.
JKUAT is a strong side to play against; they have a good midfield and play the ball well into space. I know they will be a tough side to play against but it?s up to us to up our game.? Last season, the Titans edged out JKUAT with an emphatic 2-1 victory at City Park. However, Stanley is happy to be with his club, ?It?s always a player?s dream to be signed into a club and join the first team. I?ve always enjoyed each game as it is, whether it?s a win, a draw or a loss!?. Big stan also appreciates the efforts Simon Peter ?SP? Mwangi, the Titans Coach, ?He is a good coach, I?m glad he has spotted the talent in me and has given me the chance to play for one of the best clubs in the KHU National League!?

Titans Team Spirit

The Kimathi Titans play against JKUAT this coming Sunday at City Park from 2pm, a league match that is pitted to showcase lots of talents as both teams have a very strong midfield and striking power. Titans will be relying on the services of the ever brilliant Brian Ahenda, troublesome Chris Mchwanju and Sniper Austine to control the midfield, and the likes of Lethal Joseh Fab, cheeky Young Freddie and vigilant Simonynsky to blow punches to the JKUAT striking. Philip, Nyaga, Big Stan and Misheck will be expected to hold the line of defense while young ?Almunia? Mathenge guards against the goals.

But however this is not the final team sheet; who knows, SP might through in a few tricks from up his sleeve. Like our Facebook page: The Titans Hockey Club or follow us on twitter @kimathititans for more on the club.

This is it by Victor Bwire

It has been sung over and over again that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow but many would disagree with the statement. In as much as the young people today have been made to believe that they have no role to play in leadership yet they are the majority of the population it begs more questions than answers. Young people are the leaders of today and we should let no one deceive them that they are not up to the task of being in leadership positions. It’s time the youth were urged to have open minds, think wide and big, since it is said that minds are like parachutes, they only function when they are open. They must therefore, as budding entrepreneurs and change agents; aim high and dream big, our thoughts and dreams act like a glass ceiling above which it is impossible to rise. If the youth dream small and they will surely remain small, wallowing in the valley of mediocrity but dreaming big will raise them, soaring into the blue skies of excellence, achievement and personal fulfillment.

Advancement in age doesn’t necessarily mean that one is able to make sound decisions, and hence there, there are some young people who can bring a lot of good new ideas on the table in matters concerning leadership and governance. The youth have the ability to bring change to the way in which things have always been done ever since time immemorial, the youth are fresh, gifted and bright.

The youth of today have to bring about the social change that they would like to see whether in leadership or moral issues of the society. Even though many challenges face them today, the most serious being the lack of employment opportunities through which they can earn an honest and decent life. This needs to be addressed with the seriousness it deserves if at all we would like to see a decrease in crime, drugs and substance abuse and the general state of hopelessness and despair in the youth. The issue of job creation should be every government’s top priority in order to achieve the common goals of humanity that include provision of better living standards and economic growth and hence should be accorded the weight it deserves even in the allocation of a country’s resources, commitment and focus as those directed towards HIV/AIDS and others.

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, ‘‘What lies behind me, what lies in front of me is nothing compared to what lies within me.'' There’s infinite power within us, endless possibility is in store of us and boundless opportunity surrounds us.

BLOOD DONATION AT KUCT MAIN CAMPUS by njoRAw Eltigre

 SAVE A LIFE DONATE BLOOD

14th Feb 2011

Blood donation is an important activity that every responsible and healthy citizen should take part in. Sharing your blood can save a life since every 10 minutes someone in Kenya  needs blood. You may help up to four persons at each donation and they may be victims of a vehicle accident,fire,children and mothers suffering from malaria or cancer patients, people with bleeding disorders and people undergoing surgery.

Blood donation can be done by people aged between 16 and 65 years of age.There is no pain associated with donating blood, just a slight discomfort. You are supposed to eat well on the day you give blood to ensure your well being.

 Only one unit of blood will be taken which is less than a pint. An average adult's body has between 10 - 12 pints of blood.The blood donated is quickly replaced by the body.Men can donate blood after every 3 months while women after every 4 months.

 This academic year 2010/2011there have been two blood donation drives by the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service at Kimathi University College of Technology. The first one was held on February 14th 2011 and was jokingly dubbed 'the bloody valentines' while the other one was held on 17th and 18th May 2011.

Students turned up to give their share and encourage others who were scared and reluctant.

Procedure For Blood Donation

1. The persons weight is obtained,you have to weigh at least 50kg.

2. You fill out a blood donation form that has several questions.

3. Verification of your blood pressure is done and also the volume of your blood is ascertained by a small portion being immersed in a special solution. If it sinks in the solution,you are allowed to donate, if it does not you cannot donate.

A Blood Bag

4. You are issued with a blood bag and directed to the donation point, where you are seated on a special chair.

5.A needle is inserted into a vein on the hand you prefer. You then proceed to squeeze a ball using the hand that has the needle as the blood fills the bag.

The blood bag is placed on a machine that measures the volume and when the required volume is reached it beeps and you are done.

6.After donating,you rest for a few minutes on he chair after which you are given a 500ml Soda and biscuits  to boost your energy.

7. After eating you are directed to a registration table where you give some details like your name,blood group, ID and student ID number after which you are free to leave.

Have a fun time helping to save a life by donating blood. More information can be gotten from the  Blood link Foundation they can be found on facebook or through their website www.bloodlinkfoundation.org or email them at info@bloodlinkfoundation.org
