'Big Stan' Relishes League Return by Simonynsky

Titans in Action at City Park
The Titans cooling off after a match
Stanley Njenga, the Titans right back relishes a league return against rivals JKUAT since the club took a break after their first league game in March. ?We have been preparing for this game, it?s big game and we wouldnt want to disappoint our fans. It is a big University derby (since JKUAT is the mother school to Kimathi University) and I?ll be happy if we walk away with three points.?

Being his second season at the Titans, he seems upbeat to face any opposition. He has had an impressive run last season and in the pre-season tournaments and friendlies.
JKUAT is a strong side to play against; they have a good midfield and play the ball well into space. I know they will be a tough side to play against but it?s up to us to up our game.? Last season, the Titans edged out JKUAT with an emphatic 2-1 victory at City Park. However, Stanley is happy to be with his club, ?It?s always a player?s dream to be signed into a club and join the first team. I?ve always enjoyed each game as it is, whether it?s a win, a draw or a loss!?. Big stan also appreciates the efforts Simon Peter ?SP? Mwangi, the Titans Coach, ?He is a good coach, I?m glad he has spotted the talent in me and has given me the chance to play for one of the best clubs in the KHU National League!?

Titans Team Spirit

The Kimathi Titans play against JKUAT this coming Sunday at City Park from 2pm, a league match that is pitted to showcase lots of talents as both teams have a very strong midfield and striking power. Titans will be relying on the services of the ever brilliant Brian Ahenda, troublesome Chris Mchwanju and Sniper Austine to control the midfield, and the likes of Lethal Joseh Fab, cheeky Young Freddie and vigilant Simonynsky to blow punches to the JKUAT striking. Philip, Nyaga, Big Stan and Misheck will be expected to hold the line of defense while young ?Almunia? Mathenge guards against the goals.

But however this is not the final team sheet; who knows, SP might through in a few tricks from up his sleeve. Like our Facebook page: The Titans Hockey Club or follow us on twitter @kimathititans for more on the club.

This is it by Victor Bwire

It has been sung over and over again that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow but many would disagree with the statement. In as much as the young people today have been made to believe that they have no role to play in leadership yet they are the majority of the population it begs more questions than answers. Young people are the leaders of today and we should let no one deceive them that they are not up to the task of being in leadership positions. It’s time the youth were urged to have open minds, think wide and big, since it is said that minds are like parachutes, they only function when they are open. They must therefore, as budding entrepreneurs and change agents; aim high and dream big, our thoughts and dreams act like a glass ceiling above which it is impossible to rise. If the youth dream small and they will surely remain small, wallowing in the valley of mediocrity but dreaming big will raise them, soaring into the blue skies of excellence, achievement and personal fulfillment.

Advancement in age doesn’t necessarily mean that one is able to make sound decisions, and hence there, there are some young people who can bring a lot of good new ideas on the table in matters concerning leadership and governance. The youth have the ability to bring change to the way in which things have always been done ever since time immemorial, the youth are fresh, gifted and bright.

The youth of today have to bring about the social change that they would like to see whether in leadership or moral issues of the society. Even though many challenges face them today, the most serious being the lack of employment opportunities through which they can earn an honest and decent life. This needs to be addressed with the seriousness it deserves if at all we would like to see a decrease in crime, drugs and substance abuse and the general state of hopelessness and despair in the youth. The issue of job creation should be every government’s top priority in order to achieve the common goals of humanity that include provision of better living standards and economic growth and hence should be accorded the weight it deserves even in the allocation of a country’s resources, commitment and focus as those directed towards HIV/AIDS and others.

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, ‘‘What lies behind me, what lies in front of me is nothing compared to what lies within me.'' There’s infinite power within us, endless possibility is in store of us and boundless opportunity surrounds us.

 SAVE A LIFE DONATE BLOOD

14th Feb 2011

Blood donation is an important activity that every responsible and healthy citizen should take part in. Sharing your blood can save a life since every 10 minutes someone in Kenya  needs blood. You may help up to four persons at each donation and they may be victims of a vehicle accident, fire, children and mothers suffering from malaria or cancer patients, people with bleeding disorders and people undergoing surgery.

Blood donation can be done by people aged between 16 and 65 years of age. There is no pain associated with donating blood, just a slight discomfort. You are supposed to eat well on the day you give blood to ensure your well being.

Only one unit of blood will be taken which is less than a pint. An average adult's body has between 10 - 12 pints of blood. The blood donated is quickly replaced by the body.Men can donate blood after every 3 months while women after every 4 months.

This academic year 2010/2011there have been two blood donation drives by the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service at Kimathi University College of Technology. The first one was held on February 14th 2011 and was jokingly dubbed 'the bloody valentines' while the other one was held on 17th and 18th May 2011.

Located within Nyeri municipality, on the slopes of Mount Kenya lies the expansive Kimathi University college of technology. From Nyeri town it is approximately six kilometers along the Nyeri – Nyahururu highway. The university boasts of; the serene environment having an excellent view of the snowcapped Mount Kenya, a more than 700 hectares piece of land consisting of 350 acres of natural forest, a dairy farm, 300 acres of open space for expansion and a more than 350 acres of commercial coffee. Driven by a passion of having their very own middle level college to equip the region’s youth with entrepreneurial , business and technical expertise, the community started Kimathi Institute of Technology as a community college in 1972 admitting its first batch of students in 1978.

After being elevated to the status of University College, as a constituent college of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (J.K.U.A.T.) in 2007, Kimathi University has been cited as the fastest growing university college and this has been illustrated by it becoming the first among thirteen other constituent colleges of the country’s seven public universities to be ISO certified.

Over the recent years Kimathi University has undertaken rather bold steps in the development of infrastructure and technological inputs as seen by the construction of the ultramodern Resource Centre, a one of a kind machine shop in East and Central Africa, a highly mechanized mechanical workshop not to mention the up to date Electrical and Electronic Engineering laboratory despite the low funding that institutions of higher learning receive.

The courses offered at Kimathi University are tailor made to enable the country realize its vision 2030 dream. By providing economically viable range of degree programs alongside Certificate and Diploma courses in Information and Communication Technology, Commerce, Actuarial science and in Engineering disciplines, the institution has demonstrated its commitment to producing competent graduates to the job market.
